WHO DOES JESUS SAY HE IS?

God replied to Moses, ‘I AM WHO I AM. Say this to the people of Israel: I AM has sent Me to you.’ God also said to Moses, ‘Say this to the people of Israel: Yahweh, the God of your ancestors—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob—has sent Me to you. This is My eternal name, My name to remember for all generations’” (Exodus 3:14-15, NLT).

When God told Moses that he would be the one to bring the Hebrews out of Egypt, Moses asked God, “What if the people ask me Your name? What shall I tell them?” To which God replied (in the Scripture above), “I AM WHO I AM.”

God is self-existent. He is the glory of the universe; He is our creator. Yet, in His majesty, He humbled Himself enough to come to our world, so that we might KNOW HIM and be RECONCILED to Him through Jesus Christ, His Son. So, just as God told Moses, “I AM,” Jesus, the very same God in human flesh, also tells us that He is, “I AM.”

“I AM the bread of life. Whoever comes to Me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in Me will never be thirsty” (John 6:35).

“I AM the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life” (John 8:12).

“I AM the gate; whoever enters through Me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture” (John 10:9).

“I AM the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down His life for the sheep” (John 10:11).

“I AM the resurrection and the life. Whoever lives by believing in Me will never die” (John 11:25).

“I AM the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me” (John 14:6).

“I AM the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in Me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from Me you can do nothing” (John 15:5).

“‘I AM the Alpha and the Omega,’ says the Lord God, ‘Who is, and Who was, and Who is to come, the Almighty’” (Revelation 1:8).

When God revealed Himself to Moses as the burning bush in Exodus 3:1-15, He told Moses to remove his sandals because He was walking on HOLY GROUND. As we consider what Christmas really means, let us honor God in the fact that He came to be WITH US and, because Christ lives IN US, we still walk on holy ground.

Merry Christmas!
