WHAT’S HAPPENING?

There’s so much uncertainty going on all around us today. Not just in our world, but in our country, our towns, and in our neighborhoods. And if we’re honest there’s uncertainty in our homes, as well.

I was with family and friends this past weekend celebrating. It was a fun occasion, joyful and full of good times. As the weekend went on, however, we started listening to the news. The happiness we felt the day before seemed to diminish. Finally, after seeing all the unhappy news, the question was asked, “What’s happening?”

I started thinking about this question a few days later. I really didn’t have an answer; but I knew God had the answer. God IS the answer!

Having a relationship with God has many facets. It is definitely a personal and growing relationship. One where you just might be casually talking to God or pouring your heart out to Him; either quietly speaking to Him or arguing with Him, or even extremely upset with Him.

But as your relationship grows with God you also know that He is listening to you. He is hearing every word coming out of your heart. And in return, He is comforting you, guiding you, and giving you answers to your questions and your prayers.  You know that He will always give you the truth and will always do what is best for you.

I came to that conclusion because I have come to know God through my personal relationship with Him, through His Son Jesus Christ. I am not troubled about the answer to the question, “What’s happening,” because in walking with Him, I have learned to trust Him, have faith in Him, and depend on Him.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding” (Proverbs 3:5, HCSB).

I have seen in my life the answers He has given me. The work He has done and the personal and spiritual growth which has taken place in me because of my walk with Him.

This is the essence of faith. As your faith grows, your trust grows as well. And faith takes time – it is a process, it’s a journey, and sometimes, I like to think of it as an adventure. As you draw closer to Him, He will draw closer to you as you walk, talk and grow. Then you will realize, as I have, that with God you can be certain, without a doubt, that He really is in control of everything. THAT… is “what’s happening!”

“Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see” (Hebrews 11:1, NIV).
