TIME TO EAT

Let them praise the Lord for His great love and for the wonderful things He has done for them. For He satisfies the thirsty and fills the hungry with good things”(Psalm 107:8-9, NLT).

Remember when you were a kid and got hungry, you may have said to your mom, “Oh, mom, I’m STARVING! I’m so hungry!

Funny how it wasn’t the salad and broccoli that satisfied your hunger, it was the CAKE! Fortunately, most of us have been blessed to the point where we’ve never truly been to the point of starvation. But, even at our hungriest, what did we eat to satisfy that hunger? Healthy food or junk food?

Our spiritual life can be similar to our physical life. How we satisfy our spiritual hunger is actually more important than what we eat. We can consume spiritual junk food like gossip, horoscopes, selfishness, addiction and pride. But, we can also choose to consume spiritual health food like seeking and responding to God’s guidance, reading the Bible, and praying daily.

In Matthew 5, Jesus speaks the Beatitudes in His Sermon on the Mount. “Blessed are they that…” Jesus is referring to those who hunger for our Heavenly Father and the truth of validation and redemption that only He can bring.

So, did you ever make the connection between what we spiritually hunger for and what God desires to bless us with? Simply put, we cannot be satisfied through the gratifications of the world. We must understand that we don’t merely get God’s blessing, rather, we receive God’s blessing. Our true blessings are what HE CHOOSES for us, and it rarely has anything to do with this world.

The only way to find genuine fulfillment, satisfaction, and purpose in this life is to have a hunger for God through His Son, Jesus Christ. He is the only one that can affirm and satisfy and take away our deepest hunger.
