RESCUED

He said, Praise be to the Lord, who rescued you from the hand of the Egyptians and of Pharaoh, and who rescued the people from the hand of the Egyptians’” (Exodus 18:10, NIV).

In 1980, my brother recorded a song called “RESCUED.” It was a foot-stompin’, rockin’ tune about how the stuff we deal with everyday can seem to be bigger than life. Though the examples are metaphoric, they sure seem to mirror the magnitude of many of our struggles.

See if you can relate to these lyrics:

You might as well have been tied down

to a railroad track. You might as well have been pushed off

Niagara Falls in a paper sack.

You might as well have been locked out,

held up or knocked back.

You might have might as well have been

subjected to something that you could not hack.

You might as well have been hanging

from a treetop on a broken branch.

You might have been chased down

a mountain by an avalanche.

You might as well have been turned off,

stepped on or set back.

You might as well have been shipwrecked

or shot down by surprise attack.

But you’ve been rescued, from the dark of the night

you’ve been rescued, takin’ me to the light.

It ain’t no accident, when you repent,

you get rescued from the dark of the night.

You get rescued! You can get rescued!

The RESCUE that my brother was talking about, however, was JESUS! It’s important to always keep in mind that no matter what you’re up against, Jesus can rescue you from darkness and bring you into the light. The ULTIMATE RESCUE of JESUS, however, is from the clutches of this dark world and into the light of the Kingdom of Heaven to be with Him. This is our Eternal Rescue and it is available to ANYONE who asks Him for it!
