NEVER FORGET

As I write this, I’m in a study of the book of Joshua. As with all the books in the Bible, as well as the Bible as a whole, there’s always new lessons to learn, old ones to remember, and lessons learned that we should not repeat!

When Joshua came to the end of his life and he knew God was calling him home, he called together all the tribes of Israel, along with the elders and leaders, and spoke to them.

He spoke about all the things that God had done for their ancestors Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses and Aaron. How He was always with them in their trials and in their celebrations. His covenant of love for His people was never broken. Joshua wanted to make sure once he was gone, they remembered all of what God had done for their ancestors and that, in turn, He would never turn away from them in their times of trouble or uncertainty.

That makes me think that we need to be telling our stories, telling how God sees us through our hard times and our personal crises.  We need to tell our children and our grandchildren of His faithfulness and how His faithfulness continues. His covenant was not just for thousands of years ago, but it’s for now, for tomorrow, and always.

If we fail to pass on what God has done in our lives, we do an injustice to those who walk after us. Our personal experience with God should never be forgotten. It should never be just “for ourselves.” The Holy Spirit will always remind us of what God has done for us and we should listen intently.

Tell your testimony, pass it on. Do not fail to remember the goodness and the grace God has given us and continues to give us. Everyone should know.

Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, my God, till I declare your power to the next generation, your mighty acts to all who are to come” (Psalm 71:18, NIV).

Because He is Faithful,
