WEEKLY WORD – GLORIFY (10/19/21)

I was thinking today… about what it means to glorify God. The meaning of glorify is to make glorious by bestowing honor, praise or admiration. Do we give honor, praise and admiration to God? Do we glorify Him by behaving in God-honoring ways?

I think it is easy to forget just how holy our God is. We can take for granted His help and His presence. We can go to church and enjoy the music, see friends, listen to the sermon etc. and then leave and forget the real reason and purpose for being there. We can even be in church and look at our phones while the sermon is going on! I think all too often we become too casual about our God. I wonder sometimes – have we gone too far by being so casual in church that we are not being God-honoring?

Maybe it’s time to get back to the basics and really think about the reverence we need to be showing God. We should always respect God in our daily lives by behaving the way He wants and commands us to behave. We should especially honor and respect God by giving Him our full attention during our worship service.

I think it’s hard for us to even comprehend the sacrifices and struggles of the disciples and all they went through, because it was that important to get the message out about Jesus and God.

We live in such different times. I would urge all of us to just stop and think about what Jesus did, how He suffered for us to please God and do God’s will. It is not to be taken lightly. Maybe we all need to take a step back and really think about what that means, and how we can more intentionally GLORIFY GOD.

(Psalm 34:3) Magnify the LORD with me; let us exalt His name together. Glorify the LORD with me; let us exalt his name together. Come, let us tell of the LORD’S greatness; let us exalt his name together. Oh, magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together!

(Revelation 15:4) Who will not fear you, Lord, and bring glory to your name? For you alone are holy. All nations will come and worship before you, for your righteous acts have been revealed.

(Isaiah 25:1) LORD, you are my God; I will exalt you and praise your name, for in perfect faithfulness you have done wonderful things, things planned long ago.

(Revelation 4:11) “You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being.”

(1 Peter 4:11) If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.

To God be the Glory,
