WEEKLY WORD – BE STILL (2/16/21)

I was thinking today… When I get overwhelmed and stressed – my first instinct is to rush to find a solution to the problems that are stressing and overwhelming me – to get things done. I don’t tend to stop and seek God first. When I can’t find a solution, THEN I seek God and do my best to be still and listen to His guidance.

We need to be still FIRST and ask for God’s guidance and wisdom and then act. Even for just a few minutes. If we are constantly running around frantically, we have no peace and can’t make wise decisions. Think about it, Jesus didn’t rush around in the bible. He walked purposefully and was deliberate in His words and actions.

The funny thing is when I do slow down, I sometimes feel guilty, like I’m being lazy or wasting time or not accomplishing what I should be. The Bible says we need to have a different frame of mind. We can do more for His kingdom if we are intentional about being still and listening for His guidance than if we are just aimlessly rushing around.

I would challenge all of us to try it – when you are in the middle of a challenge or a stressful situation or just want to know God’s will – stop – be still – seek God and listen.

(Psalm 46:10) “Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.”

(Psalm 37:7) Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.

(Luke 10: 39-42) She had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord’s feet listening to what he said. But Martha was distracted by all the preparations that had to be made. She came to him and asked, “Lord, don’t you care that my sister has left me to do the work by myself? Tell her to help me!” “Martha, Martha,” the Lord answered, “you are worried and upset about many things, but few things are needed – or indeed only one. Mary has chosen what is better, and it will not be taken away from her.”
