BECOME LIKE CHILDREN

I was thinking today… about children. I think as adults sometimes we tend to over analyze and complicate things. We may hear from God, but we question it and if we can’t make sense of it, then we dismiss it. Children are so much more open to the miraculous. They are accepting and trusting of people and the unexplainable. They don’t over-think things and they don’t feel the need to have everything always make perfect sense and proven to them.

As we grow up and have more life experiences, we can become jaded, not trusting and shaky in our faith. I am not saying that we shouldn’t question or use the brain God gave us, but we also need to be aware of becoming too hardened and too analytical. If we don’t believe God can work in our lives and is working in our lives, then what does that say about our Christian faith?

Jesus even said to “become like children.” Jesus didn’t make things complicated. In fact, His message was simple and clear, so that everyone could understand it. Maybe we need to take a step back and remember what it is like to have that child-like viewpoint and break down our walls and truly believe and trust God, like a child.

(Matthew 18: 1-6) At that time the disciples came to Jesus and asked, “Who, then, is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?” He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me. If anyone causes one of these little ones – those who believe in me – to stumble, it would be better for them to have a large millstone hung around their neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.”

(Mark 10:13-16) People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.
