WEEKLY WORD – THANKFUL (12/29/20)

I was thinking today… “Thankful” is not the first word that comes to mind when I think of 2020, and honestly I struggle with being thankful. I tend to take things for granted and sometimes get jealous of others and I’m sure I’m not the only one. Thinking of the bigger picture, seeing things from an eternal perspective is what we need to do. Jesus came here with an eternal mission, not an earthly one. We need to be thankful daily for Jesus and what is promised to us as His followers.

I know for me, it’s easy to go down that negative spiral when I read the news or am in a challenging situation. We need to look for the good – it is there, but we need to be proactive about it. It’s not a matter of avoiding and not being aware of things in this world, but being able to seek out the good as well.

First and foremost thank God for Jesus, and then look around you, the beauty of nature, the cherished relationships you have, people helping others, a good cup of coffee! If you think about it, you will see so many beautiful and wonderful things and people to be thankful for.

(John 16:33) “I have told you these things so that in me you may have peace. In this world, you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”

(Philippians 4:8) Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable – if anything is excellent or praiseworthy – think about such things.
