WEEKLY WORD – FIGHT LIKE A CHRISTIAN (12/15/20)

I was thinking today… We don’t often think of “fight” and “Christian” in the same sentence. I know I don’t. I think in general we think of fighting in a negative context, but that’s not always the case.

As Christians there is the good fight, the righteous fight, the fight for truth and justice. There is a fight deep within us to carry on and stay the course even when we get knocked down. We must remember when we get tired and weary, feel defeated or out of hope – we are not! Take a rest and call on God’s power, courage and strength to help you keep your focus and keep going. Whether it’s personal struggles or the world’s struggles closing in on you, remember God is in control.

I think we tend to forget, I know I do, just how powerful our God is. He made everything including YOU. Just take a moment to let that sink in. Yes, He is love and mercy, but He is also powerful. As Christians we have access to His strength to work through us, so that we can go on to serve and glorify Him, even in the worst of circumstances.

How do you think Paul and the disciples did it? They went through terrible things and terrible times in this world, but God gave them the strength and courage they needed to carry on. This life is not easy and being a Christian can be hard in a lot of ways, but we have access to God and His love and power to help us and work through us, and that is the fight I am talking about.

Fight the good fight of the faith. Take hold of the eternal life to which you were called when you made your good confession in the presence of many witnesses” (1 Timothy 6: 12).

I have fought the good fight. I have completed the race. I have kept the faith” (2 Timothy 4: 7-8).

But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint” (Isaiah 40:31).

To God be the Glory,
