WEEKLY WORD – ETERNAL PERSPECTIVE (11/17/20)

I was thinking today… We need to have an eternal perspective on things in this life. As a Christian this time is only part of our time. Jesus taught us how to live honoring God on earth, but also to remember that our lives continue on after we leave here. In general, we don’t tend to think very much about death or what comes after death. We’re not all raised with the awareness of eternity. In our society we are bombarded with ways to stay young and we avoid the thought of death and eternity.

It’s so easy to get caught up in the daily challenges and distractions of our time here. We get comfortable with always trying to make our lives here so much better and easier that we tend to forget about eternity. Why do you think the disciples were so bold and brave? They knew of eternal life and heaven. Paul, especially, wrote about it often.

I would challenge all of us to think about our own eternity and that of those around us. Teach them to see things from an eternal perspective. Maybe for those of us who believe, we will seek an even deeper and closer relationship with God. And for those who don’t believe, they will seek God and be saved.

What I tell you now in the darkness, shout abroad when daybreak comes. What I whisper in your ear, shout from the housetops for all to hear! Don’t be afraid of those who want to kill your body; they cannot touch your soul. Fear only God, who can destroy both soul and body in hell” (Matthew 10: 27-28).

To God be the Glory,
