WEEKLY WORD – DISCONNECTED (4/13/21)

I was thinking today… Have you ever felt disconnected from God? You know He is there, but you are too busy or you are having issues with relationships or you have so many plans going on, etc., that you just can’t seem to focus on God? It’s like the flesh and all of its flaws – temper, mean words, selfishness, impatience etc., have just taken over. It’s like your energy is running wild and there is no peace. It doesn’t feel good!

You read Scripture, but you’re not really letting it sink in – you are just reading the words. I wish I could say that I have never felt that way or that I can get back on track easily. But it can be hard sometimes to avoid getting consumed by our earthly thoughts and desires. It can be hard to flip that switch to the bigger picture and think outside of ourselves.

We have to choose to just stop and remember God and pray for help. It is a choice to either continue down the path of discontent, anxiousness, stress etc. or choose to give all of that over to God. Yes, we still live life, make plans, have goals, encounter challenges, but we don’t have to get consumed by them, and that is the difference. Our lives don’t become overrun by our negative thoughts and emotions, which then lead to negative words and actions.

We need to calm down and lean into our Heavenly Father for guidance, wisdom and peace. It’s not always easy, but just think of the beauty of making that a habit in our life. Recognize when you are going down that rocky road, and stop, take a breath, and remember that it doesn’t have to be that way, that you’re not doing life alone. Call on God for help and peace.

(Psalm 145:18) The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.

(Deuteronomy 4:7) “What other nation is so great to have their gods near them the way the Lord our God is near us whenever we pray to him?”

(1 Peter 5:8) Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.

(2 Corinthians 10:5) We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

To God be the Glory,
