WEEKLY WORD – CHANGE (3/9/21)

I was thinking today… This past year has been full of changes. Covid, schools, jobs, our way of life in many aspects. It has been and continues to be a challenge. Change can be hard, because whether it’s good or bad it has its challenges. I wonder how all the changes and uncertainties of this past year have affected us and the youth of the world.

The positive side of it is that we have become more flexible, resilient, and learned to adapt and adjust, and not to take things for granted. The downside has been the stress and exhaustion from constant change. I wonder if our children have become almost cynical about things not working out or they’re not being hopeful because it seems that plans always change so fast and not always for the best.

One thing I know is that all of these changes have pushed me closer to Jesus and God. As hard as all of the challenges have been, I think as Christians we can see it as an opportunity to realize our need and our hope in God, the One who never changes. He is a wonderful open door for those who depend on the world, to come to depend on Him alone. How wonderful it is to have God teach us, and the younger generation, that even though things in this world change and it can be tough, we can always depend on Him for comfort, courage, wisdom and love – and that will never change.

(Deuteronomy 31:8) “The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

(Malachi 3:6) “I the Lord do not change. So you, the descendants of Jacob, are not destroyed.”

(Hebrews 13:8) “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.”

(Isaiah 43:19) “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.”

To God be the Glory,
