HPC Midweek Minute 2/27/19
I need help. I need help because I am concerned. I am concerned because I cannot turn on the TV without witnessing the chaos, the divisiveness, and the pure meanness with which people seem to be attacking each other these days. I need help because I don’t know what to do about all of that.
Some call it “politics.” Others call it “their brand of truth.” And to be honest with you, I don’t care what anybody calls the hateful discourse that is so rampant in our culture today… what I care about is what God calls it. I believe God calls it “shameful.”
In a culture that is so bent on promoting our personal desires and agendas and philosophies, we have forgotten to bring God into the mix and ask Him, “Lord, where do you want me to stand in this? What can I do?”
And His answer? Psalm 121:1-2:
“I lift up my eyes to the mountains – where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.”
The simple fact is, God already has all the answers about how we are supposed to live and how we are supposed to treat each other. If we would look to God and His Word for these answers, rather than looking to worldly agendas, we would be able to return to civil discourse and rediscover what it means to treat each other with Love and Hospitality, even if we disagree with each other. If we truly heeded God’s Word, we would likely have fewer disagreements in the first place. That is, if we learned to love like Jesus loves.
The next time you turn on the TV or the radio and hear the ranting and vitriol from one person toward another, I would ask you to pray. Pray not for your side of the argument, rather, prayer for GOD’S SIDE to be made known. Pray for God’s truth to prevail. Pray for peace and an end to hate.
Politics nor culture contain the answers to the best way to live this life, only the Maker of heaven and earth does, through His Son Jesus. So let us bring Jesus into our thoughts through prayer and meditation in His Word, so that He can shape and mold our hearts for purposes of eternal peace… with Him and with each other.
God bless you all, and we hope to see you this Sunday!
